Frequently Asked Questions

Is electrification right for my fleet?

That’s what we’re here to figure out, but more so the real question is “When is electrification right for my fleet?”. Shoot us an email at help@truckelectrification.com and we can discuss it.

What if the price of electricity goes up?

It almost certainly will, but will it go up faster than Diesel, Gas or Fairy dust? Probably not. Even if it does, the cost of electricity is easier to control than combustion fuels so you’ve got more options.

I don’t know much about it, but I’m concerned Electrification will be a pain in the ass…?

I would posit that it’s not as bad as DEF, DPF, or EGR. It’s a lot better than iced up fuel filters or a parked regen when you’re short on HOS. Electrification has it’s own set of challenges like anything else, but all-in-all we’ve found it less onerous than the old way of doing it.

You mentioned controlling the cost of electricity, what do you mean?

Some electrical rates can be negotiated, there may be a variety of options and ways to fix your pricing over various terms. Solar is also another way to bring the cost of electricity down and make it a fixed and sunk cost which can be a real game changer as time goes by.

Can my facility handle charging?

Yes. The question is what kind of charging, and how much of it. You’ll have a specific service (200 amp single phase) for example. If you take that 200amps and subtract what you’re already using, you’ll know how much is left for charging. So if there’s 200 amp service, and your office and other things are maxing out at 30amps draw, you could fit four 40amp L2 chargers, each of which would charge a small box truck overnight (up to 12 hours). If you’re thinking you want DC charging on-site, that’s a very different set of details, but you may not need DC charging.
